Images and SEO

favicon

Use images to add weight to your SEO efforts. You can add alternative text to images. Search engines crawling your site will register these. The image text can be keywords for your website, not necessarily anything to do with the image itself. Also make sure your images are the right size for the content space available. If your image is too big and needs to be auto resized for viewing purposes you are adding unnecessary overhead to your website and increasing loading times.

Another important image to use on your website is a favicon, that’s the icon that shows in a users browser tab window when they have your page open. Twitter uses the bird and Facebook uses a letter f as their respective favicons. A favicon image is normally 512 x 512 pixels and is loaded in the “appearance” section of the WordPress dashboard.
